Illinois NEMSIS 2.2.1 Specifications

The following files contain information needed by software vendors to produce a NEMSIS 2.2.1-compliant electronic data export to the state of Illinois:

  • A list of the elements being collected by the state
  • Illinois Medication codes used for NEMSIS Version
  • Data consistency rules that will be enforced
  • NOTE: For Agency Codes, Destination Codes, and EMS System Numbers refer to our NEMSIS Version 3 information

As updates become available they will be posted here - along with summaries of the changes. These summaries will be left in place to give a complete record of revisions.

    Revision History:
    • 03/30/2010 Minor text corrections - the list of elements remains the same:
      • Corrected typo in 'E04_01' (previously was incorrectly 'EO4_01' (alpha 'O' instead of zero))
      • Changed 'Complaint' to 'Chief Complaint' for elements E09_11 (Chief Complaint Anatomic Location) and E09_12 (Chief Complaint Organ System)
      • Added 'for pediatric patients only' to description of E16_02 (Broselow/Luten Color); also, for form is autofilled based on response to E16_01, not to E16_02

      • A clarification was added re: E02_11 (EMSUnit/VehicleNumber); this element must contain the last 2 digits of the vehicle's physical license plate number.

      • The rules for when ReasonforChoosingDestination (E20_16) must not be specified have been relaxed so that a Reason for Choosing Destination may now be specified for calls where the Incident/Patient Disposition (E20_10) is 'Treated, Transferred Care' (4845).
      • The rules for when TypeOfDestination (E20_17) must be specified have been relaxed so that a Destination Type is no longer required when Incident/Patient Disposition (E20_10) is 'Treated, Transferred Care' (4845).

      • The rules for when BarriersToPatientCare (E12_01) must not be specified have been relaxed so that barriers to care may now be specified for calls where the Incident/Patient Disposition (E20_10) is 'Dead at Scene' (4820).

      • DestinationTransferredToCode (E20_02) is required to contain a non-Null value when Incident/Patient Disposition (E20_10) is 'Treated, Transported by EMS' AND Destination Type (E20_17) is 'Hospital'. For all other Dispositions, or if Destination Type is not 'Hospital', DestinationTransferredToCode now must contain a Null value

      • TransportModefromScene (E20_14) and ReasonForChoosingDestination (E20_16) now allow Not Applicable when Incident/Patient Disposition (E20_10) is Dead at Scene.

      • The note addressing data element inclusion requirements was modified to clarify that third-party software must be capable of collecting all Illinois elements.

      • A minor correction has been made in the description of the rule re: the E23_09 and E23_11 elements: the NEMSIS names for these elements were stated incorrectly.

      • Unit Left Scene DateTime (E05_09) is no longer required for non-transports:
        • Must be specified for Treat/Transport by EMS calls
        • Must NOT be specified for Cancelled calls
      • Possible Pregnancy may now be answered 'No' for Male Patients: is no longer required to be Null N/A
